Preparing for crack filling.
This is the most important part of the job. To get the longest-lasting repair, the crack seal needs a clean and solid area to stick to. Any debris or weeds left in the crack will degrade your crack repair job. On commercial applications we use a blast of our Crack Jet to clean, prep, and etch crack walls with 2,800°F hot dry air at 90 cfm for superior adhesion.
The benefits of asphalt crack repair.
Water is one of the worst things for asphalt cracks. Once it gets under the asphalt surface, it can erode the foundation or freeze (which causes heaving). Cracks can accumulate debris and dirt, and can start to grow weeds. Fixing asphalt cracks before they become potholes is the smartest thing to do — it also saves you money by extending the life of your asphalt.

We use Crafco’s hot rubberized crack sealant that meets material requirements when tested in accordance with ASTM D6690. Cracks are prepped using 90 cfm of forced hot air at 2,800°F on an as-needed basis. A motorized 8″ steel wire brush specifically designed to sweep through crevices is also used on an as-needed basis to better prepare the crack edges. This insures that the hot rubberized crack sealant penetrates deep into the crack and etches the crack wall to ensure an excellent bond. Black Beauty sand is used to coat the crack band to keep the sealer from being tacky.
Linear footage of the worst cracks is always written down on our estimates so the customer knows what they are getting for the money.
Be advised that when comparing sealcoating & crack-sealing estimates, pricing has a direct input as far as the linear footage of the crack work.
